Our experiences starting up a small IT services outsourcing company in Costa Rica.

When Renata and I returned to Canada from our first 6 week trip to Costa Rica, we did so knowing that we were going to pursue our plan further. We decided that we would plan our next trip to be a 3 month one starting October 1st through to December 27th. Since returning home, things have been busy. Our business is prospering and we have been busy going through the process of formalizing our partnership with Brent.

Around the middle of July, things were stabilizing to the point that it was time to start planning for the next stage of our Costa Rica plans. As I posted in my last entry, we have a pretty clear plan of what we want to do. Now we just have to figure out how to do it.

Renata's brother Luis, who works for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) told us about an organization called CINDE. CINDE is the Costa Rican Investment Board, an organization dedicated to promoting foreign investment in Costa Rica. Most importantly for us, they have a team dedicated to helping services companies establish themselves in Costa Rica. And best of all, their services are free! On July 21st I sent an email to CINDE. They replied the very next day both by email and by phone. Within the first few days, we had an initial conference call/presentation where Vanessa, their Investment Promotion Manager responsible for Services companies, provided us with an overview of what it takes to set things up in Costa Rica. She also answered a ton of our questions. In the following weeks, we have been emailing back and forth with a variety of questions, all of which have been answered promptly. CINDE is a must for any company thinking about investing in Costa Rica.
