Our experiences starting up a small IT services outsourcing company in Costa Rica.

We are actively preparing to establish our presence in Costa Rica. Starting October 1st, we will be in Costa Rica for the first of many 3 months stays. During this time, we have 4 main objectives:
  1. Incorporate a Company
  2. Establish an Office (most likely in a Free Zone)
  3. Hire resources (Most likely, 1 "Team Leader" and 2 "Solution Developers")
  4. Begin the process of training the team.

With that in mind, I'm going to put out my first feeler for possible candidates to fill our positions. These positions will likely be available starting around November 1st. We will likely conduct interviews in mid October.

The positions available are:

Team Leader

The Team Leader will be the Primary Point of Contact for our North American based Project Managers. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day running of SlimSoft's Costa Rican office as well as managing the rest of SlimSoft's Costa Rican Team. A blend of business skills and technical ability will define the ideal candidate to this role. Requirements for this position include:

  • At least 8 to 10 years experience in the IT industry with a minimum of 2 to 3 years in a management or team leader position.
  • Ideal candidate will have previous experience in an outsourcing or call center company as a Team Leader or Supervisor.
  • Customer Driven "can do" attitude.
  • The ability to perform the functions of a "Solution Developer" during the start-up phase of the company would be considered a strong asset.
  • IT or Engineering Background.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills.
  • Strong Organizational Skills.

Solution Developer

SlimSoft's Solution Developers will mainly be performing development and implementation services in support of SlimSoft's North American based Project Managers. These project specific solutions will include deliverables such as web based reports, custom user interfaces (both web based and thick client based), hand-held wireless applications, systems interfaces, etc. Requirements for this position include:

  • Excellent understanding of written and spoken English. Good oral communication skills will be considered a major asset.
  • Recently graduated from a University or Tech School in IT studies (or better)
  • Skilled in SQL Programming, with excellent knowledge of Relational Databases
  • Experience developing in Visual Basic or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Knowledge of C++ and/or C#
  • Knowledge of .NET
  • Knowledge in a variety of Web Based Development Technologies including some of: HTML, ASP, JavaScript, PHP, Python, Perl, AJAX, Web Services (SOAP)
  • Excellent Knowledge of Microsoft Technologies with Linux based technologies being a strong asset
